"What drove me to study for a career in community services was an interest in helping and supporting those less fortunate than me. In Nepal I completed a Bachelor of Education and taught for several years but my true passion was helping disadvantaged children in my local community. Although this was a rewarding career, I felt as though I lacked the skills and experience to counsel them adequately, and as a result, I decided to look for some formal training which would give me these skills as well as a broader understanding of community service and support.
"To fulfil this dream, prior to coming to Australia, I did some research on the course units that the Diploma of Community Services entails and quickly realised that TAFE SA could be my destination.
"The course was very practical and I was taught the concept of emotional and cultural intelligence, art of counselling, and effective communication and team work skills.
"The Diploma of Community Services has helped me in my career greatly. After the first year of my studies at TAFE South Australia, I found part-time work with the Baptist Church in Adelaide. I currently provide support to unaccompanied minors who have arrived in Australia as refugees.
"Multiculturalism makes Adelaide a vibrant and colourful city, provides opportunity to experience a variety of food, festivals such as Adelaide Fringe, different ethnic festivals, Christmas Pageant, culture and lifestyle from across the globe. I love having mouth-watering goodies from Haighs Chocolate factory and shopping at Central Market and Rundle Mall right in the heart of Adelaide.
"To me, Adelaide is the home of many kind and compassionate people."
