The Certificate III in Bricklaying/Block laying is an Australian trade level that is recognised worldwide. Completing the bricklaying course at Silver Trowel Trade Training will leave you with the necessary skills, knowledge and experience to work on a building site in the areas of bricklaying and block laying, anywhere in the world.
On this course, you will learn how to lay and bond bricks and similar building blocks and how to construct decorative panels, feature walls, arches and columns. Students will learn how to lay bricks for domestic, commercial and public buildings, as well as learning how to prepare and maintain brickwork.
Major areas of study include interpretation of plans, measurements and calculations, use of power tools and equipment, surface preparation, different types of construction, levelling and paving.
The course is 104 weeks long and is made up of 27 study units, these include:
- Carry out measurements & calculations
- Read & interpret plans & specifications
- Conduct workplace communications
- Construct decorative brickwork
- Construct masonry steps & stairs
- Construct masonry arches
- Construct fireplaces and chimneys
Careers for graduates include working as a self-employed contractor, a bricklaying company employee or being employed as a sales representative in the brick manufacturing or retail industry.
Silver Trowel Trade Training has strong links with the construction industry and student support officers are available to assist you in finding paid work placements. These placements do not form part of the study programme however, they enable you to further develop the skills learned at the college, in a real life environment, as well as ensuring that you have some work experience to give you a head start in your new career.
